X Pacific Mini Games' Vibrant Opening Ceremony

Monday, 5 December 2017 - Port Vila, VanuatuThe opening ceremony of the X Pacific Games Vanuatu kicked off with the colorful parade of nations. The event was staged at the Korman Stadium in Port Vila, Vanuatu. The festivities was graced by the Prime Minister of Vanuatu along with the Pacific Games Council President and a tribute to the person who brought the games to Vanuatu, Joe Carlo.The march past moved to the music of each participating country through the field of enthusiastic supporters displaying Vanuatu’s culture and vibrancy. Nasi, the games mascot led the parade followed by Wallis and Futuna, American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, PNG, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and host Vanuatu.The delegates and audience were treated to performances by break dance crew Wan Smolbag, fire show featuring fire eaters and dancers, cultural dance performances representing all the main islands of Vanuatu and the Van2017 theme song led by Arthur Knight that literally ignited the fire and got everyone on their feet. The Pacific stage was lit from fire dancers as tiki lanterns were ignited followed by at 15 minutes fireworks display that set the city of Port Vila in a colorful array of lights, opening the games with a bang!Guam competes in weightlifting, judo, athletics and beach volleyball. Jacinta Sumagaysay will open Guam’s competition in weightlifting on Tuesday at 4pm Vanuatu time.Last Modified on 05/12/2017 22:34
