Friday, December 1, 2023 – 17th Pacific Games, Solomon Islands

Regine Tugade-Watson closed out her stint at the 17thPacific Games sprinting to her second bronze medal of the Games in the women’s 200-meterfinals.  Tugade becomes the first Guam athlete to win multiple medals in Athletics since Neil Weare won medals in the1500m and 5000m events in 2023.

Her bronze performance in the 200-meter race established a new national record time of 24.24 seconds missing the silver medal by a mere 2/100sof a second.  With one day remaining in the quadrennial event, Guam’s medal count increased to 6 Gold, 4 Silver, and 6 Bronze.

In Basketball 3x3 action, Team Guam men and women dazzled with two exciting finishes to their respective matches.  The men edged Tonga 21-18 with a mere .01 second left after Reo Aiken dropped two free throws after being fouled.  The men, despite an early set back to Palau, claimed the top seed in their division, through the tie-breaker format where Guam had defeated Fiji in pool play. The women’s contest was a doozie as Joylyn Pangilinan, gassed and injured, endured throughout the contest, but was able to lift the team in overtime with a shot from downtown finding its mark.

Va’a men’s team competed in the V6 marathon in the Guadalcanal while Triathlon athletes ended their Games experience with the aquathlon.
