Friday, July 26, 2018 - 9th Micronesian Games, Yap, FSMTeam Guam finished the 9th Micro Games in third place behind the Republic of Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Islands in the overall medal tally. The haul of 29 gold, 12 silver and 8 bronze from 7 of twelve sports we competed in was almost enough to top the medal standing.Palau was able to overcome the 20-5 gold medal disparity from Guam’s Track and Field dominance with 11 gold medals in wrestling, 7 in table tennis, swimming, a couple of the sports we did not send a delegation for.Marshall Islands took home 26 gold medals in the weightlifting event alone, another sport Guam did not enter athletes in. The 26 medals were awarded using the Pacific Games system of three medals per division, which was disputed during the Team Manager’s meeting to no avail including events where there were only one or two competitors per division.Ratio wise, Guam’s 117 delegates compared to Palau’s 196 and Marshall Islands 134 representatives bode well for our participation in the quadrennial event. Our decision to excuse weightlifters and a baseball team to the games was based on the complexity of the Games. Other events Guam did not partake in include Table Tennis, Soccer and Micronesian All Arounds, sports that are currently not affiliated with GNOC.[gallery ids="https://guamnoc.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/20180727_184535-e1533068689270.jpg|,https://guamnoc.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/20180727_182129.jpg|" type="rectangular"]
