Team Guam competes in first ever Davis Cup

Article from the Davis Cup websiteGuam has entered the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas rankings for the first time after the Pacific Islanders enjoyed a successful debut in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV event in Oman.Having recently become a Class B member nation of the International Tennis Federation, Guam was able to compete on its own for the first time. While inexperienced as a nation, it was able to rely on a vast experience of Daniel Llarenas, who had played 21 ties for Pacific Oceania in his career.Guam entered Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV in Oman and had an excellent week, winning three of its five round robin ties and reaching the promotional play-offs. In the play-off Guam took on hosts Oman, but two three-set defeats in the singles rubbers meant it would stay in Zone Group IV for 2019. However, it comes in the rankings at No. 118. Victory for Oman meant promotion but also a return into the Top 100 for the first time since April 2013.
