However, Team Guam was able to settle down as Byrd served four successive points to knot the game at six. After three ties, Guam took the lead at 9-8. Byrd reeled off eight consecutive points to increase the lead to 17-8. After several exchanges, Sablan closed the set with a kill for a 21-14 tally.
Kiribati drew first blood in set two leading after the first change over 4-3. Kiribati held their ground during the set leading 12-9 at the break on multiple errors by the Guam duo. An ace by Kiribati increased their lead 13-9. A combination of an aces, error and line hit by Kiribati pushed their lead to six points forcing Guam to call a time out. A dink by Byrd and Sablan brought them to within four points at the change over, but Kiribati scored on a couple of kills eventually winning the second set 21-18.Another qui
ck start by Kiribati put them up 3-1. Guam reeled off six consecutive points to lead 7-3 behind Byrd's serving. Back to back aces by Sablan pushed the score to 9-3. Guam would continue their dominance at the net as Sablan commanded the remainder of the match with Byrd serving the reminder of the game. A kill for good measure by Sablan ended the match 15-5.With the win, Guam finishes pool play at with a 1-2 record placing third in their pool.
