ANOC General Assembly held in Prague

Friday, November 23, 2017 - Prague, Czech RepublicThe XXII ANOC General Assembly concluded on Friday, November 3, 2017 with record 1,300 participants attending the annual event at the Hilton Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic. President Sheikh Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah presided over the meetings which included representatives from all 206 National Olympic Committees, International Federations of Sports and International Olympic Committee members. IOC President Thomas Bach was also president along with Secretary-General Gunilla Lindberg.Oceania National Olympic Committees was represented on the Executive Panel by President Dr. Robin Mitchell, Secretary-General Ricardo Blas, along with IOC members John Coates, Barry Maister, Auvita Rapilla, James Tomkins, Sarah Walker and Baklai Temengil.The main topic covered during the meeting was the protection of clean athletes. The IOC President presented mandates to ensure that the games were fair to all athletes across the board as the IOC takes stringent measures to rid sports of doping. A special International Anti-Doping Organization was commissioned to review all previous violations and provide recommendations on these pending cases as well as recommend improvement on policies and procedures of the World Anti-Doping Agency.Reports were provided by each Continental Association President. Other topics presented included Olympic Solidarity, Women in Sports, Legal Commission, Court Arbitration Services, Prevention of Harassment and Abuse in Sport, Youth Commission, World Olympians Association, Peace & Sport, International University Sports Federation, Athletes Commission, International Relations Commission, Marketing and New Sources of Finance Commission, Medical Commission and Modernization Commission.

Presentations were made by host of upcoming games including the Pyeong Chang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Youth Olympic Games 2018 in Buenos Aires, 2019 World Beach Games San Diego, Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Winter Games, Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.All representatives were treated to a welcome reception at the atrium of the Hilton Hotel hosted by the Czech Republic NOC. The event was highlighted by the annual 2018 ANOC Awards Gala which awarded the top male and female athletes from each continental association.Guam NOC was represented during the meeting by Secretary-General Robert Steffy and Board Member Joey Miranda III.
