Tugade named Female Athlete of the Games

Friday, July 26, 2018 – 9th Micronesian Games, Yap Sports Complex Gymnasium, Yap, FSM

Regine Tugade took home the female athlete of the 9th Micronesian Games award announced at the closing ceremony. Her performance during the games include eclipsing the 100 meter dash record in the qualifying heat and then improving on her earlier performance during the finals, thus breaking and setting the higher mark.

Entering her third year at the Naval Academy, Tugade also broke the 400 meter record along with winning the long jump competition. Her sister Richelle Tugade was a close second from the panel of judges amassing five gold medals during the Games. However, the dominance in the races which included three heats by Regine was the deciding factor in awarding the trophy to the older sibling. GNOC congratulates our Olympian Regine Tugade on this prestigious award.
