Tuesday, July 24, 2018 – 9th Micronesian Games, Yap Sports Complex Gymnasium, Yap, FSM
Team Guam Basketball continued their legacy of supremacy over the Micronesian region as they punched their tickets to the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa. Both teams were undefeated through out the Games and then went ahead to batter their opponents in the gold medal matches held at the Yap Sports Complex gymnasium.
Making the mythical five were William Stinnett III in the men’s division along with Destiny Castro and Kali Benavente in the women’s division.
Guam men beat out a tough Marshall Islands team who kept battling back from two digit deficits. Guam’s height advantage was evident as all of their starters fouled out for a 86-72 gold medal match decision.
The women had a difficult time in the first half as Marshall Islands brought it to them. However, our team regrouped and opened a twenty point lead in the third quarter and never looked back to defend their golden status 62-38.
