Beach Volleyball salvages bronze medal

Beach Volleyball had a difficult time against the field of five countries. The men’s team were able to salvage a bronze medal by defeating Yap in the bronze medal match 21-18, 21-17 while the women’s duo had a rough outing.

The team of Ryan Eusebio and Shintaro Okada were 1-2 in pool play entering the playoff of which they lost to Palau in straight sets, 21-8, 21-19.

The women’s team began the tourney losing to both their opponents on day one, but bounced back to win two matches on day 2. On the final day, they lost the play off match to Marshall Islands in three sets 21-11, 10-21, 15-6 to drop them to the bronze match.

The heat took its toll on our ladies team as they took on Marshall Islands 2 for the bronze. The team of Tatiana Sablan and Kiara Rojas lost the first set 21-15, but with determination, the ladies fought back to win the second set 19-21. The third set began with both teams keep one another at bay until an exhausted Sablan lost her footing to heat exhaustion. This enabled the Marshall Islands duo to take advantage and close out the match 15-6 for the bronze. After the match, Sablan experienced fatigue and collapsed as medical assistance was provided. Sablan was treated for dehydration and heat stroke by medics on the scene.
