The celebration of the 9th Micronesian Games kicked off with a festive display of colors during the opening ceremony held at the Yap Sports Complex Track and Field. The event included the parade of participating jurisdictions as Pohnpei led the group followed by Chuuk, Guam, Kiribati, Kosrae, Palau, Marshall Islands, Nauru and host Yap.
The theme of One Micronesia echoed across the stadium as honored guests took center stage. Speeches from the Governor, FSM Vice President and other dignitaries filled the evening program. The two hour pomp and circumstance included the flag raising ceremony and concluded with the lighting of the games torch. A fire works display show lit up the skies for ten minutes above the heads of the participants as the games were declared open. The night closed off with entertainment by the host state.
